RISING JR MIDDLEWEIGHT PROSPECT GLEN TAPIA: MANNY PACQUIAO CHIEF SPARRING PARTNER

FRANCISCO GUZMÁN, boxeomundial.net, 9/14/2010

Two weeks ago rising undefeated jr middleweight prospect Glen Tapia (7-0, 5 KO’s) from Passaic New Jersey had learned that his 6 round fight against Edvan Barros (10-10-1, 7 KO's) had been cancelled. Situations like this can be frustrating for a fighter especially after having a tough training camp then another situation arose. Glen got a call to be the Filipino’s superstar Manny Pacquiao’s chief sparring partner for his fight Nov 11 against Antonio Margarito. Glen will meet with Freddy Roach in California and then he will be flown to the Philippines for 5 weeks of sparring. This is not the first time Glen had work with a world champion, he prepared the likes of Joshua Clottey and Yuri Foreman for their fight against Miguel Cotto. Glen has an extensive amateur background (130- 13) but as a pro he brings an aggressive come forward style, throwing a barrage of punches while applying pressure which is probably why he was chosen for Pacquiao’s preparation for this fight.

I recently caught up with Glen before his departure for California to meet with Freddy Roach at the Wild Card Gym.
FG: How do you feel going into Pacquioa’s training camp?
GT: I am excited to be in this situation. Manny Pacquioa he is one of the greatest fighters of our era and I am just excited to have this opportunity to spar with the guy. To see how he trains, how he does everything. Read More >>>
